In 1998, Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon launched a little startup that became a multi-billion dollar company in just 20 years. Their business, BeachBody, started from Daikeler’s idea that people would prefer exercising at home because of the privacy, lower cost and convenience. He was right, and he has been able to bring plenty of fresh ideas to keep the company relevant and inspiring to all people who want to lead a healthy lifestyle.
The idea behind BeachBody is that it does not take expensive workout equipment, fancy clothes or a gym membership to get fit. A person can exercise at home with everyday items and get in a fantastic workout. The company started with 12 exercise DVDs. By 2015, Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon had developed some of the most popular workout series to date, including 21 Day Fix, 0:08 Abs, Insanity and more. The range of workouts now includes yoga, barre, HIIT, aerobics, cycling, Pilates and additional options.
To keep up with consumer changes and busy lifestyles, Congdon and Daikeler released BeachBody on Demand in 2015. The streaming service was designed to be like Netflix but for exercise. Their idea worked better than they dreamed. The COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a boon for people who preferred to stay home and exercise. When gyms closed, BeachBody on Demand stayed available for just $99 per year for a subscription. This fabulous deal kept people active and engaged.
Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon also designed an app. OpenFit connects lifestyle mentors with new members who are just starting on their fitness journeys. The BeachBody program now has more than 400,000 mentors in its ranks. Shakeology is another important part of BeachBody. People can blend a shake and have a nutritious, filling and tasty meal replacement in less than one minute.
Although Carl Daikeler stays busy with his business, he finds the time to fit other activities into his life. He’s won two Tony awards for his Broadway productions. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, traveling and experimenting with new recipes in his state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen.
