Carl Daikeler has always been interested in fitness, but he took his passion to the next level as an entrepreneur. His career began with filming halftime shows for the NFL, which showed him how perfect the human form can be. In the 1990s, he entered the infomercial industry. Daikeler noticed a proliferation in offerings for fitness and exercise equipment. Thinking about why that might be, he came to understand that there were a few factors at play.
One factor Daikeler thought about was the shame that a person who is overweight may feel when going to the gym. Another factor was the hassle of actually getting to the gym. Anyone with children, a full-time job or transportation issues might have a hard time getting to a gym. This inspired Carl Daikeler to develop the BeachBody Program. It’s a series of workouts anybody can do at home. The initial episodes built off each other and got more intense. Subsequent episodes were released as their own series. Insanity, P90X and Power 90 are a few of the most popular home workout options. BeachBody on Demand started in 2015 as a way to offer online subscriptions and access to all of the workouts in the program.
Nutrition was the final factor considered by Daikeler. He knew that the typical American diet consisted of too much sugar, fat and calories and too little fiber, vitamins and minerals. He and Darin Olien created Shakeology. It builds upon the 21-day detox program also offered as part of the BeachBody program. Shakeology offers two protein options. One is from whey, and the other is from plant-based sources. Participants choose a flavor, such as salted caramel, vanilla, cafe latte or tropical strawberry. The powder is mixed into plant or dairy milk to make a meal substitute.
Shakeology fills those deep nutritional gaps. It has a minimum of 16 grams of protein per serving. It’s also high in fiber. This combination makes a person feel full for a long time. Feeling satisfied reduces overeating. Shakeology can be used on its own, as a meal replacement or with fresh produce.
