Today, Gary is still working on starting up new companies and helping local businesses get off the ground. He is also a part of the new company that he helped found called Law Quest, which focuses on doing research and publishing articles to help educate people in the legal and real estate industry.
Gary grew up on a small farm in Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador. He attended school until Grade 8 at Twillingate Consolidated Elementary School. Later he went on to attend high school at Twillingate Academy.

After finishing high school, Gary began working on his family farm. He had been working on this farm since around the age of 12 with his parents and six siblings. He did things such as feed the chickens, clean the pig pens, milk cows and gather hay. In 1992, he moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland where he began working for a company called Thistle Enterprises Ltd., where his father was a partner for that company until 2006.
Today, Gary and his family live in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. He has three children named Emma, Grady and Max. They enjoy spending time together in their free time playing sports such as hockey and golf.
Gary is an active member of the community and has won multiple awards for his contributions to business, entrepreneurship and philanthropy.
He was nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2005 for his work with Williams Lee Group Ltd. and Prosperity Realty. He also won the Atlantic Region Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2010 along with his brother, James McGaghey. Paul Clark, one of the three partners at Williams Lee Group, was nominated for this award as well.
Gary is also very involved in philanthropic projects and causes around Newfoundland and Labrador.
