Most fight promoters would have folded their tent and gone home if they had been informed that their prominent event boxer had tested positive for Covid-19 and would miss the match. As a result, owner Ryan Kavanaugh recruited a new fighter and moved his tent across the nation. For good measure, Kavanaugh got a former President to weigh in. Oscar De La Hoya’s long-awaited return was slated for September 11 against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort. They were to headline a Triller Fight Club night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, televised on cable and pay-per-view.
Then came the tragedy. On September 4, De La Hoya said he had Covid-19. “Preparing for this return has been everything to me,” De La Hoya said on Twitter, beside a picture of himself in a hospital bed.Ryan Kavanaugh, the renowned Relativity Media founder and majority owner of Triller, began calling. His first fight was against former undisputed world champion (at both cruiserweight and heavyweight) Evander Holyfield. Holyfield was supposed to fight in an earlier Thriller Fight Club battle that never happened. Now was the time. Kavanaugh urged Holyfield to fight Belfort in place of De La Hoya. He agreed.
But the war had not begun. California wouldn’t allow it. Most would have given up at this point. “The thing I’m most proud of in business is that I’m constantly told, ‘It’s impossible; that won’t work.'” He’s made the impossible feasible. He’d do it again. Kavanaugh relocated his fight business and boxers to Hollywood’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The state would approve the battle. The show goes on. On YouTube, Ryan Kavanaugh claimed, “We have a whole boxing event for the first time.” “We relocated from CA to FL. We swapped Oscar De La Hoya for Holyfield.”
Concerned that Holyfield had an unfair edge, Kavanaugh recommended to both competitors that the fight’s outcome not be recorded. Kavanaugh examined the odds the day before and the day of the bout, and Holyfield was favored. Pre-fight tickets sold out hours before the first bout. Orders for internet pay-per-view increased after Trump was introduced. What had appeared inconceivable just days before now seemed plausible. Go Here for related Information.
